Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder, professionally Winona Ryder, was born on Winona Minnesota. The name was given to her by her parents for the town in which she grew up. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Ryder is also half-sister to Sunyata Jubal. Her older sibling is Uria. Ryder along with her whole family relocated to Mendocino, California in the year 2000, when Ryder was just seven. The family didn't have electricity. Ryder was a voracious read and often spent her time studying books since there was no television. At the age of 12 Ryder enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre to take acting classes. When she was 15, Ryder landed her first part on the screen in Lucas. Ryder was bullied in high school. Ryder believed that if she became an actor her behaviour would be changed. Sadly that didn't happen. She continued to pursue her ambitions. In 1988, she received her big break in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder was able to continue playing roles that were successful in a variety of films. She received nominations for two Academy Awards one for her part on The Age of Innocence (1993).
